Energy efficiency WHY ENERGY EFFICIENCY IN BUILDINGS?
Analyzing the different sectors which are responsible for the emission of CO2, it becomes clear that
the largest source of emissions stems from energy used in buildings, in particular space heating.
In general, consumption in buildings accounts for slightly more than 40% of the energy used in the European Union.
In contrast, both transport and industry account for some 30%, respectively.
For that reason, in all countries there is a huge potential to save energy in buildings, both for heating and cooling.
Households are responsible for one quarter of CO2 emissions in the EU.
There are studies indicating that the most cost effective measures available at the moment are energy efficiency measures in buildings.
